Frequently Asked Questions

What is CBD?

Cannabidiol (CBD) is the second highest forming cannabinoid in the cannabis plant family, the first being THC (Tetrahydrocannabinol). CBD is the primary cannabinoid in hemp plants, while THC is the main cannabinoid in marijuana plants. CBD helps to promote a state of homeostasis, bringing balance to the mind and body. From relieving stress and managing pain in humans, to decreasing symptoms of separation anxiety in animals, CBD is an excellent option to add to you or your pet’s selfcare routine.

There are two classifications of CBD: hemp-derived CBD and marijuana-derived CBD. When derived from hemp, CBD contains less than 0.3% THC content, which means it does not have psychoactive effects, or the ability to get you “high,” however, when derived from marijuana, there is a much higher THC content (up to 30%) and the potential for impairment. resolveCBD offers hemp-derived CBD products only. Our CBD is extracted from locally grown hemp using a CO2 extraction process, the preferred method of extraction to produce high quality, consistent results. The extracted CBD is then formulated with our unique blend of MCT (medium-chain triglycerides) oil and other complementary ingredients for each collection.

What is full spectrum CBD?

Full spectrum CBD contains all compounds found naturally occurring in the plant; these include essential vitamins, minerals, fatty acids, protein, chlorophyll, terpenes, flavonoids, and low levels of other cannabinoids. Consuming full spectrum CBD allows your body to benefit from the whole plant, which can improve absorption levels – this is commonly referred to as the Entourage Effect.

What are the benefits of CBD?

CBD has shown to have immense health and wellness benefits for humans and animals, with continuous scientific studies emerging, as well as anecdotal evidence supporting these benefits. Some of the known benefits of CBD include increased alertness, reduced stress, reduction of chronic pain and inflammation, reduction of anxiety or depression symptoms, antioxidant properties and neuroprotection, anticonvulsant and anti-seizure benefits, and reduction of cancer-related side effects. CBD has also been found to be useful for treating conditions which have not responded well to conventional treatments and medications, such as childhood epilepsy or pet anxiety.

How long does it take for CBD to take effect?

The length of time it takes for CBD to take effect will depend on the route of administration. The fastest effect will be felt from smoking or vaporization (onset of effects within minutes). Topical administration of CBD will be felt quickly as well. The next fastest effect will be felt from a sublingual dosage (onset of effects in 15 – 60 minutes). The slowest effect (but the longest lasting) will be felt from oral ingestion, such as edibles (onset felt in 60-90 minutes).

Will I get high from CBD?

CBD is considered to be a non-psychoactive cannabinoid so it will not get you high in the way that marijuana (THC) gets you high. CBD can have an effect on your mental state as some users report a very subtle feeling of relaxation or mental clarity. While not sedative on its own, the relaxing effects of CBD may be sedative and therefore helpful in treating insomnia.

How to use CBD oils, edibles and topicals

CBD oil can be ingested or applied topically, depending on the CBD product you choose. We offer a range of CBD oils in varying concentrations and flavours and pre-dosed CBD capsules and CBD gummies, which can be ingested. When consuming CBD oil, it is advised to apply the oil under your tongue (sublingually) so that it can dissolve directly through the membranes in the mouth and into the bloodstream. When digested in capsule or gummy form, the CBD must first pass through the digestive system, taking slightly longer to enter the bloodstream. Finally, you can apply CBD topically with our CBD cream for targeted skin-deep relief. No matter which CBD product you choose, resolveCBD is a safe, effective way to achieve balance and equilibrium throughout your body.

How much CBD should I take?

We offer CBD oils in varying concentrations from 500mg to 1500mg for humans and 200mg and 600mg for pets. CBD gummies and CBD capsules are pre-dosed. In order to determine the right dosage for you, we recommend taking our 3-step quiz for a personalized recommendation, or check out our dosage chart for more information.

Can I give CBD to my pet (dog, cat, etc.)?

Yes. Pets can benefit from CBD for many of the same conditions as humans: pain, seizures, inflammation, and anxiety. CBD is safe to use for pets but their dosage will likely be much smaller than yours. Dogs have a higher concentration of cannabinoid receptors in their brains; this means they are very sensitive to THC. We recommend you speak with a veterinarian before you start giving your pet CBD.

What is the best way to take CBD?

There are many different ways to use CBD. The four main ways are sublingual using tinctures or sprays, topical with lotions or balms, ingestion with edibles, beverages or capsules, and inhalation by vaporization or smoking. We believe consuming CBD sublingually with a tincture is one of the best ways to consume CBD as the dosing is precise and has a reasonably fast onset period.

What do you recommend for sleep?

CBD doesn't make you "sleepy", however it can help alleviate symptoms that get in the way of a good sleep. For treating anxiety to improve sleep, the current consensus is that a medium to large dose is likely the most effective range, depending on severity. A good place to start would be in the area of 15-20mg, taken about 45-60 min before bed. If you're using a tincture, try to absorb as much as you can under your tongue after letting it rest for about 15 seconds (the rest can simply be swallowed).

What do you recommend for pain?

The best practice and the industry standard for new users dosing CBD is to start low and go slow. This means starting at a dose of ~10 mg (either daily or as-needed) and slowly increasing the dose in 5 mg increments every 2 to 3 days if you find that a higher dose is needed for relief – this is what’s known as a titrating period. More CBD is not necessarily better because cannabinoids are what’s called bi-phasic – this means there is an optimal amount for an individual to use, which is generally between 10 – 40 mg per day of full spectrum CBD oil, however, this does take some personal trial and error to figure out what’s best for you. If your pain is fairly significant, you may be on the higher end of that scale.
